Maybe you would like to hang one for decoration and Good Luck too. Myths and Legends: In the 4th century the Greeks thought that a horseshoe symbolised the crescent moon. They regarded this as a sign of fertility. St Dunstan (Archbishop of Canterbury circa 10th century) was originally a blacksmith, who shod the devils one hoof so painfully that he roared for mercy. Being relinquished from his pain, the devil promised that if a horseshoe hung over a Christians doorway that they would be left in peace. Tradition has the luckiest horseshoes coming from the hind feet of a grey mare that pulled the bridal carriage. Last but not least. The horseshoe is "U" shaped to contain Good Luck, provided it is hung by its shoulders and not turned upside down, whereby all the luck would drain away.
